The following information is quoted from a letter  received from the Minister of Natural Resources,  The Honorable Ernest L. Fage.  The letter  from Mr. Fage was dated March 25, 2002 and may be viewed by contacting Ms. Catherine Klefenz  @ 876-2055.

 

Re:      Prohibited Activities on Crown Lands within the Abandoned Rail Corridor From Lakeside Industrial Park, Lakeside to Hubley Connector Road, Hubley, Halifax, County.

 

Further to your recent discussions with staff of our Lands Branch, this is to inform you that, pursuant to Section 38 of the Crown Lands Act, unless otherwise authorized in writing by the Minister of Natural Resources and until further notice is given, the following activities are prohibited on Crown Lands within the abandoned rail corridor from Lakeside industrial Park, Lakeside to Hubley Connector Road, Hubley, Halifax County, as shown in red on the attached map:

 

  • No person shall operate a motorcycle, motor bike, dirt bike, automobile, truck, sport utility vehicle or amphibious vehicle, at any time, except for vehicles being used for emergency purposed or for construction or maintenance of the trail;

 

  • No person shall operate any form of motorized vehicle, except for vehicles being used for emergency purposes, between the hours of 11:00 p.m. local time of any day and 5:00 a.m. local time of the immediately following day;

 

  • No person shall exceed the speed of 20 kilometers per hour by any mode of transport;

 

  • No person who owns or is in control of a dog shall permit it to be off-leash;

 

  • No person shall hunt, trap, take or snare any wildlife or attempt to do the same;

 

  • No person shall have in their possession or discharge a loaded firearm or bow;

 

  • No person shall have in their possession an unloaded firearm or bow unless the firearm or bow is permitted to be carried under the Wildlife Act and regulations made thereunder and

 

(i)             is in a case which is properly fastened; or

 

(ii)          is completely wrapped in a material which is securely tied around the firearm or bow; or

 

(iii)       in the case of a firearm, is rendered inoperable by the attachment of a trigger lock to the firearm.

 

It is my understanding that the B.L.T. Rails to Trails Association will be posting signs, pursuant to clauses 9 and 10 of your Letter of Authority LOA 2000-052a dated February 6, 2002, to advise the public of these prohibited activities.  The wording of these signs must be approved by the Department of Natural Resources.
